Sorry Retail!

April 24, 2008 at 1:49 pm | In Uncategorized | 4 Comments

In a recent post I wrote about the retail industry and those in store credit cards. And I must stay Ruth’s comment touched me. And I don’t want it to sound like I have anything against the cashier… No, I have something against their bosses who force them to say those things so that each interaction with the customers is exactly the same and not personal at all. I think if you let the cashier do their own thing it would make for a better experience all around…

I’m sorry if anyone was offended and thought I was attacking cashiers.

  1. Lol, I totally get where you are coming from. It is so repetitive! I definitely think if the cashiers could be more pesonal, and not so scripted, it would make things a lot BETTER. But Ruth is right, most of them are instructed to say those things, which is just freaking stupid! :) Have a good day Andrew.

  2. Andrew you are so cute, dorky, but cute1

  3. I worked as a cashier in retail and I was forced to push these cards on people. I would get paid $1 for each one I opened and we had a store goal for the day. So if they seem extra pushy its b/c they are getting pressured to meet the goal… or they take their job way too seriously!!

  4. I never worked as a cashier at a retail store… but I did wait tables for two years and it’s almost the same thing… where you have to suggest certain items and have this kinda memorized script of what to say… it’s really annoying.

btw, i agree with sara. ;)
